Concern as 5 Companies Gazetted for Insolvency

The tough economic times in Kenya have caused five companies to go out of business. These companies are Xplico Insurance, Nest Group Africa, Kenya Motors and Equipment Limited, Ali Harbours Restaurant, and Latchford Land Holdings Limited.

Let's look at each company's situation. Xplico Insurance is facing a serious problem and might have to shut down. A decision on this will be made in a court hearing on June 11. People who are owed money by the company can support or oppose the shutdown during this hearing.

Kenya Motors and Equipment Limited have already hired someone to help them close down. People who are owed money by the company need to submit their claims by May 27, 2024. A meeting will be held on May 30, 2024, to discuss what to do next.

Ali Harbours Restaurant has already finished the process of closing down. They had a final meeting on May 30, and everything has been resolved.

Latchford Land Holdings Limited decided on their own to close down. They made this decision on April 18, 2024. People who are owed money by the company should submit their claims by June 28, 2024. If they don't do it on time, they might not get any money from the company.

These problems come at a bad time for businesses in Kenya. They are worried about a new bill called the Finance Bill 2024. This bill might bring in new taxes that will make things even harder for struggling businesses. The Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) is worried that if the bill becomes law, more foreign investors will leave the country. KAM thinks this bill will hurt the economy and make prices for things like bread and cooking oil go up.

It's a difficult situation for these companies and for businesses in Kenya in general. The decisions made in the coming weeks will have a big impact on the people who work for these companies and on the whole economy. Let's hope for the best and that things start to improve soon.
